For most people the biggest reason to use wireless headphones is that they eliminate all the wires between you and the audio source. Wireless Technologies
The two main technologies used in wireless headphones are Radio Frequency (RF) wireless and Infrared wireless (IR) wireless. They both use a transmitter/receiver system. Each of these systems has its advantages, so it is best to know your specific requirements before purchasing one or the other.
Radio Frequency or RF technology uses radio frequencies within the 800-900 MHz band to send audio signals up to 150 feet from the transmitter. RF has the ability to penetrate through walls and obstacles which gives the added benefit of actually being able to receive wireless audio in several rooms of a house from a single source in one room. The range of RF signals is reduced when they pass through walls.
One drawback of RF wireless devices is that they are susceptible to interference and static. This may be caused by other RF wireless devices such as cordless phones, wireless computer networks or wireless video transmitters operating within range of your receiver. These audio sources may occasionally cause "static" in your headphones. With RF you may also get static from a weak or degraded transmission signal, normally caused by being too far away from the transmitter.
RF signals can also be blocked by water or metal objects standing between the transmitter and the headphones. That includes such things as metal firewalls, ductwork or shelving, or even people (who are mostly water). You can avoid many of these interference issues by keeping the transmitter above head level.
Infrared wireless technology transmits the audio signal in the form of a beam of light similar to a tv remote. This makes them a "line of sight" device, which means you must be able to visually see from the transmitter to the receiver to successfully receive your signal. Most infrared systems are limited to about a 30 foot range with clear open line of sight.
One advantage of Infrared wireless headphones is that you get true stereo (left and right channel) separation, and therefore better stereo quality. Infrared transmission is also less prone to interference because it is a line of sight technology. Other similar signals are less likely to cross the line of site of your device.
Bluetooth is an alternative wireless technology used to send digital data from a transmitter to your wireless headphones. In order for two bluetooth devices to talk to each other they must first make a connection, or 'pair up'. Once two devices are paired up, they are able to transmit data back and forth using special bluetooth digital transmission technology.
Bluetooth technology is ideal for headphones because you can transmit perfect quality digital audio seamlessly from a base unit to your bluetooth headset. Acoustic Research’s new 2.4 Ghz wireless headphones offer true 2.1 Sound that is usually so good, you won’t miss using your regular surround speakers. You’ll get the 2.4 Ghz wireless transmitter, a stereo cable, stereo Y adapter cable, AAA batteries, and an AC power adapter. You will have the option of using the batteries or the power adapter for either the headphones or transmitter, and will likely want to use the adapter with the transmitter. It is very easy to power on and connect with the headphones, but if you forget to turn it off after you’re done, you’ll find you have to wait a bit the next time you go to use it.
The transmitter’s input is for a 3.5mm cable, and you’ll find you can plug in your MP3 with ease. You can also choose to connect the device directly to your receiver’s stereo RCA jacks or simply plug it into the headphone jack.
The headphones are very comfortable from the moment you put them on. There shouldn’t be any adjustments needed. The volume controls on the left earpiece are convenient, as is the power button and power jack.

Comfort - For me, probably the most important thing to look for in gaming headphones is that they are comfortable. Generally big and comfy, they go around the ears giving great sound quality. You don't see them in the home as often anymore, although some audiophiles swear by them. These 'phones remain an essential part of any recording studio and seem to be popular among those who want to listen to their iPods while looking like an extra from That 70's Show.Ear pad headphones: Ear pad headphones are quite similar to full sized headphones but are smaller and sit on the ear rather than over it. In the trade, they are referred to as supra-aural and tend to have a slightly poorer sound quality than full sized 'phones but are a lot more portable due to their size. This style of headphones was very popular in the 80's but lost ground as earphones became more popular. They're now going through a renaissance, particularly due to the popularity of behind the head or earclip versions.In-ear headphones: This type of headphone is gaining popularity due to their excellent sound quality and ability to block out external noise. They sit directly in the listener's ear canal forming a "seal" giving great sound isolation. Like anything, they do have a downside. Wireless headsets are headphones that are not physically connected to the main device with a wire. These headsets use radio or infrared waves to receive signals from the main source. They provide extremely flexibility to do anything while wearing them-walk, jog, skate or even ski.
Wireless headsets are becoming fairly common even for household use like watching TV or listening to music. Since they are not connected by cords to the main equipment, they allow flexibility to move around and do things like cooking, exercising or any other household chores.
Some wireless headsets use infrared rays for receiving signals, like a remote control. These have a limited range of receiving of a maximum of 30 feet. Cordless headphones, on the other hand, use radio waves. The headset should be adjusted in frequency with the base station so as not to interfere with other devices. These headsets have a greater frequency of up to 2.4 GHz and can reach up to 300 feet.

Making sure you can hear your system
With any system, you'll have to find a way to hear the sound. A few monitors out there have audio inputs (so they'll receive the audio signal from the player) and jacks for wired headphones; simply plug the headphones in, and you have instant audio. Most likely, you'll want to connect the audio to a transmitter for wireless headphones.
There are two types of wireless headphones and transmitters: RF (radio frequency) and IR (infrared). In both cases, the audio output from your media source connects directly to the transmitter via audio patch cables. RF transmitters "broadcast" the audio signal over a specific radio frequency wavelength to its compatible set (or sets) of headphones. Because they use radio frequencies, the transmitters can be mounted anywhere in the vehicle; the headphones act as "antennas." These work remarkably well; the only potential drawback is that they might be susceptible to slight radio interference (although that's generally unlikely). IR transmitters "beam" the audio signal direcly to a set of compatible headphones. They aren't susceptible to interference like RF transmitters are, but the transmitter itself must be mounted within a direct line of sight of the headphones; obstacles will block the signal from reaching the headphones.

You can also use your vehicle's sound system to play your video soundtracks, if you prefer. If your receiver has auxiliary inputs (as some aftermarket receivers do), you can connect the audio from your media source directly to them using audio patch cables. If your receiver doesn't have auxiliary inputs (as is the case with many aftermarket and nearly all factory receivers), you can use an FM modulator. The audio from your source connects directly to the modulator; the modulator then connects to your radio's antenna input (power and ground connections are required, too), and "broadcasts" the sound over an unused FM frequency.
As previously mentioned, you might find a system that uses a wireless FM modulator. It operates on the same principle as wired modulators, except it doesn't require you to make a direct connection to your radio's antenna input, which is remarkably convenient! Like wireless headphones, wireless modulators may fall prey to occasional interference, and the range of frequencies over which they can broadcast can be a bit more limited than those of hard-wired versions. But they can solve some very tricky installation problems, by eliminating the need for you to access the back of your radio

With different electrical devices produced everyday, the problem of connecting things is becoming more and more complex. The system that comprises the computers and other electronic devices makes use of varieties of connecting wires, cables and the likes. These parts communicate through light beams, lasers, radio signals and infrared. However, the problem with this devices and technologies is often the connection between each component. Thus, most systems are not used to their full extent due to complexities.
To simplify things, a solution was created to streamline the process of connections- bluetooth.
Bluetooth is wireless and automatic and offers users with varieties of excellent features that has recreated the art of connection. It has revolutionized the standard method of connecting things that virtually anything can be connected on a single system. From computers to mobile phones and from keyboards to headphones by means of wireless, automatic and inexpensive connection.
Other than the bluetooth technology, there are other ways of connecting things. Take for example the infrared or IR. It allows low frequency light waves which the eye can no longer interpret to transmit signals to another component. The technology is easy to create and cost of incorporating the IR device into a system is in barest minimum. Yet it has limited operations that seldom obstructs the process of connection.
Infrared technology is one to one process. Due to this limitation, you may only send signals from one component to another, like the case of the television set and the remote control. The same is true between laptops and desktops. You may only transmit signals between the two but not with another separate system, say a PDA through simultaneous actions.
It also works only on the line of sight principle wherein one has to point the infrared device directly to the host system to achieve a desirable result.
In spite of the fact that these two natures of infrared technology are obstacles to acquiring results, these same qualities have worked in advantage to connection. Because infrared devices need to be lined up directly on opposing locations, too little interference occurs between transmitters and receivers. The one to one principle on the other hand is designed to transmit signals only to the original recipient. Given that there are varieties of infrared recipients in a location, the intended recipient alone will receive the signal coming from a transmitter.
However, technology was not contented with what infrared offers. They resolved these limitations through creating the bluetooth solution.
Bluetooth technology works by transmitting signals via low frequency radio signals. The path of communication is approximately working on 2.45 gigahertz. The same frequency band is utilized in ISM devices.
The design of the technology was such that it has created a new system that does not interfere with the other devices that make use of the same frequency band (e.g. ISM). One way of doing this is the programming of the bluetooth technology to only transmit signals that has 1 milliwatt or less. Beyond this, other systems may be affected. By comparison, cell phones and other mobile devices send signals at a rate of 3 milliwatts and more.
The standard range of the bluetooth is around ten meters. This lessens the possibility that interference between device may occur. With this low transmission, it is still possible for the user to transmit bluetooth signals between obstructing walls.
Bluetooth in many ways have contributed much in connecting individual systems without being bothered by the bulk of the cables and wires.
